Under the blue skies of California, two Right to Dream Ghana soccer academy graduates – Michael Tetteh and Waid Ibrahim – kicked-off a new fundraising project, minus their boots.

‘Playbarefoot’ aims to change lives in West Africa by fundraising for sports development charity, Right to Dream

A select team of mums, dads and students joined Michael and Waid in getting their shoes off and running around on the turf for an hour and in the process raising $400 for future players in Ghana, who without Right to Dream’s support, would never have made college in the US without Right to Dream.

If you would like to organise a playbarefoot tourno – be it for 10, 20 or 100 people – please contact us info@playbarefoot.com

We look forward to some shoeless shennanigans with you soon…

playbarefoot is a new campaign being launched this week by sport leadership charity Right to Dream to raise funding and awareness for sports development programmes in Sierra Leone and Ghana.

In the world’s poorest countries many children grow up barefoot. Footwear is not something many can afford. And when it comes to their favorite game – football – it’s no different. Everyday thousands of children play football on dusty, rocky pitches without boots.

The first playbarefoot fundraising event will take place in LA on the 4th october

Playbarefoot launch: 2pm, Sunday 4th October, Soccer Fields @ California University Ahtletics Centre

Match fee will be $25 and includes exclusive Playbarefoot Tee. All monies raised go to the Right to Dream academies in Ghana and Sierra Leone.

The Right to Dream Football Academies and Leagues in Ghana and Sierra Leone are giving these children the chance to develop not only their football skills to the highest level, but also their own development, education and local communities.

This year in Sierra Leone 40 youth teams have been formed across the country and are being coached and managed to become community development hubs. The teams win points for games, fair play, school attendance and community projects. Already the impact is being seen. In 2007 UNICEF measured school attendance nationwide at 30% within the league it is already at 80%.

Football is inspiring change for the better. To fund these change-making projects we’re asking those with a better start in life to take their boots off for one game or one tournament a season – to play barefoot, fundraise and change lives.
